Taking place on 25 September 2011, Coolangatta Gold is one of the most significant endurance race in the country. It was inaugurated in 1984 and has been competed in several years that followed up until 1992. After thirteen long years it has once again emerged in the sporting scene in the Gold Coast and has undergone reformations and adjustments.
Nowadays, the Coolangatta Gold has become one of the major sporting event in country and still continues to increase in popularity. Renowned as the foremost Ironman and Ironwoman competition in Australia, Coolangatta Gold gathers some of the best endurance athlete that will compete in several multi-discipline sport events. A great number of local and international competitors sign up to participate in this very challenging race.
The race features a number of divisions and events such as Open male, masters male and mixed teams compete in a combination of board, ski, swim and run over 46.65 kilometres. Participants that are visiting our holiday apartments near Broadbeach can also compete in open female, masters female and U19 male categories compete over 30.5 kilometres. As part of the modern Coolangatta Gold, several exciting events were added such as team and master competitions as well as a short distance women’s race. Also, the race is now open to non surf lifesaving competitors.
After an exhausting yet fulfilling day of fast paced competition, the racers with the best time will be declared as the big winners. Aside from taking the prestigious championship title, winners will get to take home a hefty sum of $20,000 for the male and $10,000 for the female victor.
